ABSTRACT:
The gate arrangement11is provided in order to regulate coolant airflow in a path typically in a turbine blade1of a jet engine. The gate arrangement11includes a gate component12having an opening end15which at low temperature is closed by a gate member14. Due to different coefficients of expansion between the gate component12and the gate member14when the arrangement11increases in temperature there is a divergence between a seal end21of the gate member14in order to open the opening end15of the gate component12and to allow coolant airflow through the arrangement11. Thus, coolant airflow is allowed for high temperatures but as the gate component12and gate member14converge at sustained typically lower temperatures coolant airflow is stopped in order to prevent unnecessary cooling and so provide greater thermal efficiency.
