A carburettor detergent comprises a compound formula R--O--R.sup.1 --N.R.sup.2.R.sup.3 where R is a hydrocarbyl group containing at least 20 carbon atoms, R.sup.1 is a hydrocarbyl or amino substituted hydrocarbyl group and R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are hydrogen or an alkyl group.
