ABSTRACT:
An iron based filler wire is described for use in gas shielded arc welding and includes between about 0.05 to 0.09 weight percent carbon, 1.10 to 1.40 weight percent manganese, 0.70 to 1.00 weight percent silicon, 0.00 to 0.025 weight percent phosphorus, 0.00 to 0.225 weight percent sulfur and 0.0 to 0.3 weight percent copper. The obtained weldment produced in CO.sub.2 shielding gas possesses an average Charpy V-notch impact value of at least 45 ft.-lbs. at -20.degree. F.
