The following fused polycyclic compound, analogues thereof or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof have an effect of increasing the sugar-transporting capacity and an effect of lowering the blood glucose level and, therefore, they are useful for preventing and/or treating diabetes and the like.wherein R is a methoxy group, Y is a (2-thiazolyl)-2-ethylcarbonyl group, R10and R13are hydrogen atoms, and R11and R12are methyl groups.
