ABSTRACT:
The present invention provides a condensation polymer, selected from the group consisting of polyamides and polyesters, that comprises between about 0.5% and about 4.0%, based on the theoretical moles of monomeric repeat units, of a trifunctional repeat unit. One of the functional groups of the trifunctional repeat unit comprises a moiety that imparts a desired property to the polymer, such as stain resistance or UV stabilization. One particular embodiment of the invention is a nylon 66 polymer that comprises between about 0.5% and 4.0%, based on the theoretical moles of nylon 66 repeat units, of a trifunctional repeat unit having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R is the functional group that imparts a desired property to the polymer; a, b, and c are separately integers from 0-5. Preferably a+b=5 and c is 3.
