ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to a friction drive conveyor including carriers1, which can be propelled along a track by frictional wheels30fitted along the track. Each frictional wheel30can be driven by a brakeless motor29. A sensor32senses whether each frictional wheel30is in contact with any one frictional surface15of the carriers1. The track includes a section along which the frictional wheels30are supported at regular intervals equal to or slightly shorter than the total length L of the frictional surfaces15on each side of each carrier1. On the basis of a signal output from each sensor32, a controller24so controls the associated brakeless motor29as to start rotating the associated frictional wheel30in contact with any one frictional surface15when the forward next wheel30gets free of the frictional surfaces15, and as to stop driving the frictional wheel30having got free of the frictional surfaces15.
