ABSTRACT:
An accurate frequency to voltage converter for cardiac telemetry systems, in which converter charges are stored in response to selected intervals proportional to the period of an alternating input signal. Linearization of the output voltage as a function of input frequency characteristic is effectively and inexpensively achieved by charging a set of charging and voltage holding capacitors from a substantially constant voltage through a resistance such that capacitor terminal voltage rises as an exponential function of time. The reciprocal function of frequency as a function of period has a similarly shaped characteristic curve, and these function characteristics are effectively combined by the invention to generate the desired linear overall conversion function. Additionally, a controlled switching means is employed for alternately establishing a pair of signal path conditions, and this switching means has a definite internal ON resistance which prevents complete discharge of a charging and voltage holding capacitor in the time allowed. To alleviate a conversion inaccuracy which would accordingly otherwise result, an additional charging capacitor is connected directly to a means which periodically discharges the set of charging and holding capacitors.
