ABSTRACT:
A valve device for use in preventing freeze damage caused by water freezing in water pipes in the home or other location. The device includes a cylindrical body portion which houses an apertured retainer plate and a bellows assembly with attached valve stem for coacting with a valve seat located in one end cap. The bellows is initially charged to an expanded condition with a fluid such as a gas mixture which contracts as the temperature approaches the freezing temperature of water. In one embodiment, the length of the valve body may be changed to compensate for changes in ambient temperature and pressure which can affect the relation between valve stem and valve seat.
