ABSTRACT:
This invention refers in general to free-wheeling mechanisms of industrial use and more particularly concerns a simple free-wheeling unit which comprises as principal parts a spring-and-ratchet mechanism housed in an ellipsoidal slot stamped in the central sprocket or crown gear. This free-wheeling mechanism is actuated at the required moment by the torque action generated by the spring which makes the ratchet engage the peripheral milled slots of the central sleeve which forms part of the free-wheeling mechanism. In addition to having the function of stopping rotation of the wheel in one direction, the mechanism also houses on each side in respective channels the lubricated roller balls, favoring wheel rotation.
