ABSTRACT:
A grain-refining flux in the form of vitrified spheroids, ranging in diameter from about 5 to 40 mm., and consisting of, by weight, 95 - 65% of sodium hexametaphosphate and 5 - 35% of alumina. It is highly effective irrespective of the Si content of the aluminum alloy material as well as of the casting thickness. It is quite easy to handle in practical application, not producing any harmful gases, and can be safely stored owing to its lack of hygroscopicity.
