ABSTRACT:
A twist-free continuous filament heather yarn of reduced streakiness and chevroning and muter appearance of the colors of the yarn making up the heather yarn when formed into a fabric is prepared by tensioning a plurality of twist-free crimped continuous filament yarns having a different color and/or dye receptivity in order to remove intra-yarn entanglement, passing the tensioned yarns side-by-side into a jet intermingling zone at a slower withdrawal rate from said zone. The heather yarn is characterized by substantially no twist between the yarns making up the heather yarn and by yarn-to-yarn randomly intermingled filaments forming blended areas of random length of filaments along the heather yarn randomly interspersed between unblended areas of random length along the yarn. The heather yarn is incorporated into a pile fabric.
