A flow-through cell has a working electrode, an auxiliary electrode, a reference electrode, and a channel. The working electrode is a mercury drop electrode. The channel has a cross-sectional area of less than 1 mm.sup.2 in the region of the working electrode. The mercury drop is situated in the channel.
