ABSTRACT:
A flow control system for use in a power steering apparatus including a fluid cylinder for amplifying the manual steering torque and a control valve associated therewith. The flow control system is installed in a pressure fluid feed line which feeds fluid from a hydraulic pump to the fluid cylinder via the control valve. The system comprises a parallel combination of a fixed restrictor and a variable restrictor, and a vehicle speed response control device comprising a stepping motor for changing the amount of restriction of the variable restrictor by rotating the restrictor by a specific angle, a vehicle speed sensor for producing an electric signal in response to the increase and decrease of the vehicle speed, and a stepping motor control device for controlling the angle of rotation of the stepping motor by means of the electric signal from the sensor to control the amount of restriction of the variable restrictor so as to control the flow rate of pressure fluid to the control valve and fluid cylinder, thereby improving the stability of steering.
