ABSTRACT:
A trapped rubber molding apparatus including a die positioned within a fixed-volume, rigid mold, the die being surrounded by an integral solid silicone rubber material which has been cured within the mold at an elevated temperature. The die and mold closure are thermally isolated from the remainder of the mold. The die and the silicone rubber material adjacent thereto are selectively heated and cooled. The opposite end of the mold is selectively heated and cooled. This configuration results in the ability to independently control temperature and pressure on the molded part during the molding process.
