A filtration device that enables efficient cleansing and rinsing of filtration media within a short time, in which filtration sand is not likely to become clogged, and in which unevenness within filtration sand is not likely to occur comprising a screw conveyor32provided within a cleansing tank38, which is suspended from the upper portion of a filtration tank2, a space52being formed between a filter bed4and a wire mesh50, which are vertically separated, filtration media14provided on the wire mesh50, and filtration media54, having larger particle sizes than the filtration media14, provided within the space52and a plurality of strainers12provided in the filter bed4and cleansing water spraying pipes58provided on an outer wall surrounding the space52and after the screw conveyor32is rotated and the filtration media14has been cleansed, cleansing water is sprayed from a filtered water discharge pipe46and the cleansing water spraying pipes58, to expel contaminants through a raw water supply pipe56.
