ABSTRACT:
A lightweight ceramic refractory covering for water cooled members forming the structural portion of a metalliurgical furnace which is thermally insulating and resists wet scale attack, corrosion and vibrational stresses. The covering comprise an inner layer of thermal insulating ceramic refractory fiber blanket, an open weave ceramic cloth about the blanket, an inner layer of veneering mortar, compressed rings or strips of ceramic fiber material, and a hot face layer of veneering coating.
