An efficient lighting unit with improvements in ease of moving its head, reliability and the like is provided. The lighting unit includes: heads6A and6B defining illuminating apertures6Aa and6Ba, respectively, for directing light to an object W to be illuminated, the heads6A and6B being supported by a movable support member1;LED light source devices5A and5B mounted at the movable support member1for emitting light when supplied with electric power from an electric power source3disposed separately from the movable support member1through an electric cable4;and flexible optical fibers7A and7B for guiding light from the LED light source devices5A and5B to the respective illuminating apertures6Aa and6Ba of the heads6A and6B.
