ABSTRACT:
A ferroelectric pyridine compound suitable as a liquid crystal for display mode utilizing ferroelectric properties and exhibiting SC* phase at a temperature somewhat higher than room temperature and a liquid crystal composition are provided, which compound is expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein n represents an integer of 0 to 8, R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group of 2 to 18 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group of 1 to 18 carbon atoms and the symbol * indicates that C having the symbol attached thereon is an optically active carbon atom.
