ABSTRACT:
Ferrocenyl thiols of the formula ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of from 2 to 4 are prepared by reacting a compound f the formula ##STR2## with thioacetic acid, ##STR3## at elevated temperatures in the presence of a free radical initiator to produce a thiol ester of the formula ##STR4## and then hydrolyzing the thiol ester to produce the thiol. The thiols are useful as non-migrating burning rate modifiers for unsaturated rubber-based propellants.
