ABSTRACT:
A method of requesting access from a mobile station (MS)10to a network8by which to conduct user-to-user communications (e.g., requesting a dedicated traffic channel) is presented. A first time is when a user input at the mobile station10initiates a call. The first time as compared to a threshold time. A time-dependent code, such as a CDMA long code, is calculated for a random time if the first time is earlier than the threshold time, or for the beginning of a slot is the first time is later than the threshold time. A mobile station10to practice the method includes a user interface26whereby a call may be initiated at the first time, a processor22for calculating the time-dependent code, and a comparator for comparing a start threshold time to the first time. The threshold time is related to the slot time.
