ABSTRACT:
A worm extruder for replastifying miscast plastic webs has a cylinder bore communicating with a receiving chamber at a feed opening, the chamber and the bore being provided with a plurality of longitudinal grooves for catching plastic strips wound about the extruder shaft upon feeding to the receiving chamber. Upon being snagged by the grooves, the strips are ground between a worm thread of the extruder shaft and a polished surface of the bore in which the catch grooves are disposed. The receiving chamber is asymmetrically formed with a peripheral sickle-shaped space extending in part into the cylinder bore toward a resin outlet, while the shaft is formed in the region of the chamber with a plurality of worm threads having equispaced notches.
