ABSTRACT:
A method is disclosed whereby rare earth elements are extracted from acidic solutions thereof using, as an extractant, a mixture of an alkyl (C.sub.4 -C.sub.12) phosphinic acid or salt and an alkyl (C.sub.4 -C.sub.12) or aryl phosphonic acid or ester thereof.
