An expansion valve1comprises a piping member10equipped with passages to which refrigerant pipes are connected, and a cassette unit100,the two members being formed as separate units. The cassette unit100comprises a tube member110having a flange portion111,and at the interior of the tube member110are fixed a guide member170,an orifice member180,and a plate member166.The pressure of the gas filled in a gas charge chamber122defined by a lid120and a diaphragm130displaces the diaphragm130, the displacement being transmitted through a stopper member140to a shaft member150.The shaft member150is guided by a guide member170and controls the valve means160inside a valve chamber161.The cassette unit100is inserted to the piping member10and fixed to position by a ring50.Seal members62, 64,and66are equipped to appropriate areas between the cassette unit and the piping member.
