ABSTRACT:
An exhaust pipe1having a circular cross section is connected to a circular cylindrical housing2which creates part of pipe conduit. The housing2forms a storage space21having a diameter larger than the diameter of the exhaust pipe1and connecting to the rear connection part22. The connection part22is tapered toward the downstream exhaust pipe12and the diameter of the connection part22is gradually reduced and its opening is welded into the opening of the downstream exhaust pipe12. And a cylindrical honeycomb catalyst carrier3is stored in the storage space21so that the outer surface of the catalyst carrier is in contact with the inner surface of the storage space21. An expanded portion23having a diameter larger than the diameter of the storage space21is outwardly expanded from the outer circumference of the housing2and connectingly provided on the front face of the storage space21. The diameter of the expanded portion23is gradually reduced toward the upstream exhaust pipe11and welded into the opening of the outer wall of the exhaust pipe11.
