ABSTRACT:
A system and a method for removing NOxfrom an internal combustion engine exhaust stream at lower temperatures, and releasing the NOxback into the exhaust stream at higher temperatures, includes an occluder with an adsorbent able to selectively adsorb NOxat temperatures below a predetermined temperature and desorb NOxat temperatures above the predetermined temperature. The system includes an engine control module that operates the engine during cold operation so as to produce an increased ratio of NO2/NO.
