A novel process for the preparation of (1R,5S) 6,6-dimethyl-4(R)-[(S)-cyano-(3'-phenoxy-phenyl)-methoxy]-3-oxabicyclo-(3- 1-0)-hexan-2-one which is an intermediate for the preparation of (S).alpha.-cyano-3-phenoxy-benzyl alcohol.
