ABSTRACT:
Disclosed is a method for enhancing the removal of nitrogen, sulfur, or both from oil-shale. The oil-shale is treated with either (i) steam at a temperature from about 250.degree. C. to about 350.degree. C. to remove nitrogen; or (ii) water at a temperature from about 200.degree. C. to about 350.degree. C. to remove both nitrogen and sulfur.
