ABSTRACT:
An engine with a variable compression ratio includes a connecting rod connected to a piston, a first arm turnably connected to the connecting rod and to a crankshaft through a crankpin, a second arm integrally connected to the first arm, a control rod turnably connected to the second arm, and a displaceable support shaft for supporting the other end of the control rod for turning movement. In the engine, a displacement Vhpiv0and a compression ratio εpiv0at the time when the support shaft is in any first position and a displacement Vhpiv1and a compression ratio εpiv1at the time when the support shaft is in a second position displaced from the first position are determined, and a relation, Vhpiv1>Vhpiv0is satisfied when εpiv1<εpiv0, and a relation, Vhpiv1<Vhpiv0is satisfied when εpiv1>εpiv0.
