ABSTRACT:
A pair of ball bearings19, 19and a roller clutch20are provided between the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve18fitted and fixed onto the rotating drive shaft of a starter motor and the inner peripheral surface of the pulley element17around which an endless belt for starting an engine extends. The roller clutch20has a concave section32on the inner peripheral surface of the clutch outer ring30to define a cam surface31. After the engine is started, the rollers33, 33move toward the bottom of the concave section32against the resilient force of the springs40. And, the rolling contact surface of the rollers33, 33is separated from the outer peripheral surface of the clutch inner ring29. Consequently, the friction heat which would be produced after the engine start is suppressed, and a structure having an excellent durability as a unit for starting the engine of the idling-stop vehicle is realized.
