ABSTRACT:
An energy attenuation apparatus for a system conveying liquid under pressure, and a method for attenuating energy in such a system, are provided. The apparatus includes a housing containing at least one chamber, wherein an inlet conduit extends into the at least one chamber, a portion thereof being disposed in the housing and having at least one aperture for introducing liquid therefrom into the at least one chamber of the housing, and wherein an outlet conduit extends out of the at least one chamber, with a portion thereof being disposed in the housing and having at least one aperture for receiving liquid from the at least one chamber of the housing. The ratio of the diameter of the housing to the diameter of the inlet or outlet conduit is at least 2:1.
