ABSTRACT:
A surgical instrument which allows the surgeon to insert the instrument in a remote location in a body cavity and from the proximal end rotate a control knob to rotate a tool bit mounted on the distal end for use in prostheses. The surgical instrument can be held in one hand and the control knob can be manipulated by the thumb or finger(s) of that hand. Several drive mechanisms including a spur gear train, bevel gear, spherical ball and link chain and belt are disclosed.
