ABSTRACT:
An elevated liquid storage tank has a tubular concrete shaft on which is supported a metal tank body. The tank body has a unitary bottom wall having an endless horizontal plate bearing on the top of the concrete shaft, and inner and outer conical portions extending upwardly from the horizontal plate. A bed of cementitious grout or other shiffening means are disposed within the lower portion of the bottom wall to withstand compressive forces urging the outer margin of the inner conical portion and the inner margin of the outer conical portion toward one another. A construction method, comprising erecting the tank bottom wall on the shaft and raising the pre-fabricated tank side wall up the side of the shaft is also disclosed.
