ABSTRACT:
An electrophoretic display capable of improved contrast. A back substrate52provided with a transparent electrode54and a transparent substrate53provided with transparent electrodes551to553are arranged at a predetermined distance D. Between the transparent substrate53and the back substrate52are arranged a large number of microcapsules. In each of the microcapsules56A is sealed a dispersion comprised of electrophoretic particles57dispersed in a dispersion medium61in advance by the microcapsulation technique. The plurality of microcapsules56A are sandwiched between the transparent substrate53and the back substrate52. The display surface side and the back side thereof are flat in shape.
