ABSTRACT:
Electronic signals are compressed or expanded by writing periodic samples the signal onto one side of a thin magnetic disc at a first rate and then reading the samples off the other side of the disc at a second, and different, rate. In another embodiment of the invention, the samples are written onto a rotating magnetic ring or disc by a plurality of write/erase heads which are selectively gated to the signal source. The samples are then read off the disc by a plurality of read-heads which are selectively gated to the external load.
