A method of electronic ballast protection including providing an electronic ballast having an AC/DC converter104with an electronic ballast input and a mains voltage connection103connectable to a mains voltage102, an inverter120operably connected to the AC/DC converter104and having an electronic ballast output125connectable to a lamp124, a control circuit116controlling the inverter120, and a low voltage power supply114providing low voltage power to the control circuit116; supplying power to the low voltage power supply114from the electronic ballast input when the mains voltage connection103is wired to mains voltage102; and disconnecting the power to the low voltage power supply114when the electronic ballast output125is wired to the mains voltage102.
