ABSTRACT:
An improved non-aqueous electrolyte solution for lithium cells is disclosed which utilizes an organic ester of methyl formate together with lithium salt and an amount of CO.sub.2 in the electrolyte solution. The active lithium anode may also be pretreated with CO.sub.2.
