ABSTRACT:
An agent which absorbs hydrogen gas for electrochemical cells is made from an oxide of manganese and nickel, cobalt or iron. At temperatures above about 40.degree. C., the oxide of manganese can be replaced by lead oxide. Hydrophobic binders can be added to the agent or the agent can be microencapsulated in water-impermeable but hydrogen-gas-permeable materials. The agent is preferably added to the cell in the form of small agglomerates or microcapsules.
