ABSTRACT:
An electrochemical cell having a catalytic electrode which comprises a refractory oxide having a surface area of from 1 to 500 square meters per gram and a carbonaceous pyropolymer consisting of carbon and hydrogen forming at least a monolayer on said refractory oxide, said electrode having a conductivity at room temperature of from 10.sup.0 to 10.sup.2 inverse ohm-centimeters.
