ABSTRACT:
Improved perpendicular alignment can be imparted to nematic liquid crystal cells by coating the cell walls with a perfluorinated polymer applied to the cell walls by glow discharge in the presence of a perfluorinated monomer. The coated cell walls are thermally stable at least up to about 525.degree. C.
