ABSTRACT:
An electric motor lubrication system and a method of making the same are disclosed. The motor is a unit bearing motor with an oil reservoir at the bottom of a vertically disposed shaft. The motor rotor has a shaft jounaled in a bearing post on the frame, and the lower end of the poast has two grooves to receive an oil-saturated wick. Each groove has a flat bottom which extens at at least a 5-degree angle relative to the shaft axis, and the intersection of the flat bottom with the shaft aperture forms a plow edge having a component of force directing oil toward the bearing upon shaft rotation. This readily supplies oil upwardly for a vertical shaft motor. The foregoing abstract is merely a resume of one general application, is not a complete discussion of all principles of operation or applications, and is not to be construed as a limitation on the scope of the claimed subject matter.
