The brush gear has at least two cage brush assemblies34. Each cage brush assembly34having a brush40for making sliding electrical contact with the commutator of the motor; a cage50for guiding the brush40along a path towards the commutator; and a spring70for resiliently urging the brush40along the path through the cage50. The spring70is a constant force spring having two coiled end portions which engage the cage50at a commutator end portion.
