ABSTRACT:
An electric double layer capacitor including electrodes made of carbon material as the main component, and an electrolyte capable of forming an electric double layer at the interface with the electrodes, wherein the electrolyte includes an organic type mixed solvent containing propylene carbonate and an asymmetrical chain carbonic acid ester represented by the general formula R.sup.1 OC(.dbd.O)OR.sup.2, wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are mutually different monovalent organic groups, and a solute comprising a quaternary onium salt.
