ABSTRACT:
A dynamoelectric machine stator formed of first and second concentrically mounted cylinders at least one of which is made of coiled amorphous metal ribbon. One of the cylindrical portions of the stator is formed of an edgewound helical ribbon in which the respective turns are dished into a conical shape to provide either a uniform outer diameter for the cylinder within a close range of tolerances that affords a low reluctance joint between the cylinders when they are concentrically mounted, or an accurate alignment of winding-receiving slots in adjacent turns of the dished ribbon. According to one aspect of the invention, a method for manufacturing a helically wound, amorphous metal stator is provided.
