ABSTRACT:
A drive layout for an offroad vehicle. The vehicle has a frame, at least two wheels supporting the frame, and an internal combustion engine supported by the frame. The engine has at least one cylinder, a piston positioned in the cylinder and reciprocating along a first axis. The piston drives an output shaft of the engine which is arranged to drive at least one of the wheels through a transmission. The vehicle has a longitudinal centerline, with the output shaft of the engine extending transverse to the centerline. The transmission includes a main shaft driven by the output shaft by a belt extending along a second axis. The main shaft drives a drive shaft which extends parallel to the centerline and which is arranged to drive at least one of the wheels. The layout is arranged such that the first axis and second axis are positioned on opposite sides of the centerline.
