ABSTRACT:
Geothermal wells are drilled and the raw steam containing H.sub.2 S gas and debris that is released is treated with an aqueous solution containing ferric chelate and one or more water soluble cationic polymeric catalysts to remove substantially all of the H.sub.2 S and the debris is removed in a settling zone. The polymeric catalysts accelerate the oxidation of sulfide ions to sulfur solids.
