ABSTRACT:
A coking chamber of a coke-oven battery, with heated longitudinal walls interconnected by a doorjamb at each end, is closed by a pair of doors sealingly fitting into these doorjambs. Each door has a vertical channel separated from the exterior by an outer wall with a heat-insulating layer and from the interior of the chamber by an upright metal plate facilitating thermal conduction therebetween. The channel is accessible at various levels or over its entire length to gases evolving from a charge inside the chamber which, in rising toward the roof of the chamber, retransmit some of their heat through the metal plate to the charge for enabling substantially uniform heating thereof from four sides.
