ABSTRACT:
A system is provided for matching the auto- and cross-correlated components of error and constant and/or range-dependent biases with appropriate values of ballistic dispersion or random errors in order to decouple the gun system from the highly auto- and cross-correlated tracking and/or gun-order errors associated with high firing-rate multibarrel guns. This angular ballistic dispersion--artificially induced to some preset value or continuously adjusted during the tracking and/or firing interval--maximizes the probability of a preassigned number of hits on target. The system embodies (1) a logic for controlling the angular ballistic dispersion for the engagement conditions, (2) a control system which, using this logic, provides power to a mechanism which increases or decreases the gun angular dispersion in response to externally generated command signals, and (3) a mechanical dispersion control mechanism for positioning the individual barrels of the multibarrel gun system and thereby achieving the desired angular ballistic dispersion.
