ABSTRACT:
An object is to drive a plurality of types of disc cartridges, in different formats but with similar external dimensions. A disc drive apparatus is configured to use a single spindle motor32to drive a first disc cartridge1,having a first cartridge1ahousing a first disc10and a first pair of positioning holes1c, 1din the first cartridge1a, as well as a second disc cartridge2having a second cartridge2ahousing a second disc13with the same outer diameter as the first disc10and a second pair of positioning holes2c, 2din the second cartridge2a; positioning shaft location means40, 41are provided; when the first disc cartridge1is driven, these positioning shaft location means40, 41position the positioning shafts40a, 41ain positions corresponding to the first pair of holes1c, 1d, and when the second disc cartridge2is driven, the positioning shaft means40, 41position the positioning shafts40b, 41bin positions corresponding to the second pair of holes2c, 2d.
