ABSTRACT:
A discotic nematic material comprising a compound of R1—H1—Ar—H2—R wherein Ar represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring; H1and H2represent an aromatic hetero ring; and R1and R2represent a substituent having from 1 to 30 carbon atoms. The discotic nematic material contains a discotic liquid-crystal compound having a smaller number of side branches and capable of expressing an NDphase.
