ABSTRACT:
A zero twist, staple fiber yarn of good strength, outstanding cleanness and good uniformity is produced from continuous filaments by a direct spinning process followed by entangling to a pin count of less than 50 millimeters. Filaments of less than 70 percent break elongation are stretch broken to fibers having an average length of 18 to 60 centimeters with at least 5 percent short fibers, at least 1.5 percent long fibers, and 50 to 93.5 percent fibers of lengths between 12.7 and 76 centimeters.
